Type a word you have already played, press Add guess, then tap each letter until it matches the colour the game showed you: grey, yellow or green. Every word that still fits appears underneath, the moment you change a colour. Add your next guess the same way and the list narrows again.

The list is ranked to help you pick the next guess, not just to show you the survivors. Everyday words come first, because a daily puzzle’s answer is almost always an ordinary word. Within those, a word whose letters are common among the words that are left comes higher, because guessing it splits what is left most evenly. The first word is marked best next guess.

Repeated letters are handled the way the game scores them. A grey E beside a green E in the same guess does not mean “no E” — it means “exactly one E”. That is why you enter whole guesses rather than a pooled box of grey letters: the colours only mean something next to the other letters of the same guess. Most simple solvers get this wrong and quietly drop the right answer.

It works for 4-, 6-, 7- and 8-letter variants too — change the word length before your first guess. The dictionary is the public-domain ENABLE list, and it runs entirely in this tab: nothing you type is sent anywhere, and it does not contain, or peek at, the game’s own answer list.

How to use

  1. Type a word you have already guessed and press Add guess (or Enter).
  2. Tap each letter until its colour matches the game: grey, yellow or green.
  3. Read the list of words that still fit. The first is the best next guess.
  4. Play it, then add it here with its new colours. Repeat until one word is left.

Frequently asked questions

Is this cheating?
That is up to you and whoever you play with. Plenty of people use a solver after they are stuck, or after the puzzle, to see what they could have played. The page only ever shows words that fit the colours you entered; it has no idea what today’s answer is.
Does it know today's answer?
No. It does not contain, download or look up the game’s answer list. It filters an independent public-domain dictionary by the colours you enter, which is why it also works for yesterday’s puzzle, a friend’s custom one, or a 6-letter variant.
How is the best next guess chosen?
Everyday words first, because daily answers almost always are. Then, among those, the word whose letters appear in the most of the remaining candidates — guessing it tells you the most about the rest. It is a simple, honest heuristic rather than a full game-tree search.
How are repeated letters handled?
Exactly as the game scores them. Within one guess, greens and yellows of a letter set a minimum count, and a grey copy of the same letter caps it there. So a grey E next to a green E means one E, not zero.
Why does it list words the game will not accept?
The dictionary (ENABLE, 172,823 words) is larger than the word list any particular game allows as guesses. Rare words are shown after everyday ones and in a lighter style so you can tell them apart.

ENABLE, a public-domain word list, compiled by Alan Beale and M. Cooper. Source and licence. It is not the Wordle answer list, and not a tournament list.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The dictionary downloads once and every check after that runs in your browser.
