Image to Text (OCR)
Extract the text from an image, screenshot or photo — drag, drop or paste a picture and copy the recognised words.
🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.
The Image to Text tool reads the words out of a picture using OCR (optical character recognition). Drop in a screenshot, a photo of a document, a scanned page or a snippet you copied, and it recognises the text so you can copy, edit and reuse it instead of retyping. It handles printed text in a range of languages and gives you the result in an editable box, ready to clean up and paste anywhere.
It runs the recognition in your browser. The OCR engine is a WebAssembly build that processes the image on your own device — your picture is not sent to a server to be read. You can hand it an image three ways: choose a file, drag one onto the drop zone, or simply paste a screenshot straight from your clipboard, which is the fastest path for something you just captured.
Recognition quality tracks image quality: a sharp, high-contrast, upright image of printed text reads best, while blurry, skewed or handwritten input is harder. Pick the language that matches the text for the best accuracy. Because the result lands in a normal text area, you can fix any stray characters, then send it on to the Word Counter, tidy it with the AI Text Cleaner, or download it as a .txt file.
How to use
- Choose the language that matches the text in your image.
- Add the image: click to choose a file, drag one onto the drop zone, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl/⌘ + V.
- Wait a moment while the OCR engine loads (first time only) and reads the image — progress is shown.
- Review the recognised text in the box and fix any small errors.
- Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Examples
Paste a screenshot of an error message or a chat and get the words as editable text you can search or share.
Snap a printed page, drop the photo in, and pull out the text instead of retyping it by hand.
Grab the text off a lecture slide or an infographic image so you can cite or reuse it.
Turn a scan into text you can paste into a spreadsheet or notes app.
