Online Notepad

A clean, distraction-free notepad that autosaves in your browser — with a live word and character count.

🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.

The Online Notepad is a simple, clutter-free place to write. Open the page and start typing — there is no sign-up, no formatting toolbar to distract you, and no “save” button to remember. Your note is saved automatically as you type, directly in your own browser, and it will still be there when you come back to this page on the same device and browser.

It is perfect for the kind of writing that does not deserve a whole document: a quick to-do list, notes during a call, a draft message, a snippet of code, or a place to dump ideas before they disappear. A live word and character count sits at the top, so you always know how much you have written, and you can copy everything or download it as a plain text file whenever you want to move it somewhere permanent.

Because the note lives in your browser's local storage, nothing you write is sent to a server. That makes it private and fast, but it also means the note is tied to this browser — see the FAQ for how to keep a backup of anything important.

How to use

  1. Open the page and click into the writing area.
  2. Start typing — your note saves automatically a moment after you stop, shown by the status label.
  3. Watch the live word and character count update as you write.
  4. Use Copy to move your note elsewhere, or Download .txt to save a permanent file.
  5. Use Clear note when you want to wipe the pad and start fresh.

Examples

Quick to-do list
Jot tasks as they come up during the day; the pad remembers them when you reopen the tab tomorrow.
Meeting notes
Type freely during a call without fighting a word processor, then download a .txt copy afterwards.
Draft before posting
Write and refine a message or comment here, check the character count, then copy it into the real app.
Scratchpad for snippets
Keep a temporary stash of links, codes or ideas you'll need again in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my note saved?
In your browser's local storage, on the device you're using. It is not uploaded to any server — it stays on your machine.
Will my note still be here later?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser on the same device and don't clear your browsing data. The note reloads automatically when you reopen the page.
Will I lose my note if I clear my browser data?
Yes. Clearing site data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browsers or devices will mean the note isn't there. For anything important, use Download .txt to keep a backup.
Is there a word limit?
No fixed limit. The notepad handles long notes easily, and the live counter keeps tracking your word and character totals.
Can other people see what I write?
No. Because the note never leaves your browser, no one — including us — can see its contents.
How do I move my note to another device?
Use the Copy or Download .txt button, then paste or open the file on the other device. Local storage itself does not sync between devices.
