Websites increasingly serve pictures as AVIF because the files are small, so “Save image as” now often gives you an .avif. Your browser shows it happily; plenty of other software — older photo viewers and editors, office documents, and many upload forms — still refuses it. Drop it on the image converter, pick JPEG, and download a file everything accepts.

Modern Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all decode AVIF, so the conversion needs no extra download: your browser reads the picture and writes the JPG on your device.

What changes

The file gets bigger. AVIF is one of the most efficient formats there is; the same picture as a JPG is often two to three times the size.
Transparency is flattened. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a colour you choose. Pick AVIF to PNG to keep them.
Metadata is removed, including any location data.
